This practice is especially important when it comes to dump trailers, as not all models are the same. Learn about some of the areas you should focus on to make sure you make your selection right.

1. Charger Function

Think about how the trailer will be stored on a regular basis. If the trailer will be returned to a warehouse or other indoor environment daily, you can choose a trailer with an AC charger function so that you can easily connect and charge the battery through a wall outlet. 

On the other hand, if the trailer will spend most of its time outside or on a job site, you want to choose a trailer with a solar charging function since you will not always have access to electricity. Solar units get their charge while in the sun, so you do not have to worry about losing power.

2. Gate Style

You want to pay attention to how the gate functions on the rear side of the trailer. Traditionally, dump trailers have swing-open doors. However, this door style does not work with every need. 

For example, for trailers used for agricultural practices, such as for spreading, this gate style can create more of a mess. In this instance, the owner would do better selecting a dump trailer with a spreader gate style. Make sure you think about your needs and choose a trailer that reflects it.

3. Side Wall

Again, given the rate at which you will use the trailer to service your business, longevity and durability are very important. To ensure the trailer is equipped to meet your needs, you want to select a trailer with a thicker sidewall design. The thinner the sidewall, the more likely it is to puncture. 

Keep in mind; even a tiny puncture in the metal sidewall can cause rust to form. Although you can solve a rust problem on a dump trailer, it is much easier to simply avoid the problem altogether. Thicker sidewalls are durable and reliable for heavy use.
